Allegations of Research Misconduct

Research misconduct includes fabrication, falsification, manipulation of citations, or plagiarism in the research process, conduct, or writing of articles. When it is found that authors are involved in research misconduct or other serious irregularities related to articles published in scientific journals, the Editor has the responsibility to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the scientific record.

In cases of alleged misconduct, the Editor and Editorial Board will use COPE’s best practice guidelines to help resolve complaints and handle violations fairly. This includes investigating the allegations by the Editor. Manuscripts that are found to contain such misconduct will be rejected. In cases where published papers are found to contain such misconduct, a retraction may be issued and linked to the original article.

The first step involves determining the validity of the allegations and assessing whether the allegations are consistent with the definition of research misconduct. This initial step also involves determining if the person making the allegation has relevant conflicts of interest.

If scientific misconduct or other research irregularities may have occurred, the allegations will be shared with the corresponding author, who, on behalf of all co-authors, will be asked to provide a detailed response. After the response is received and evaluated, additional reviews and the involvement of experts (such as statistical reviewers) may be obtained. For cases where misconduct is unlikely, clarification, additional analysis, or both, published as a letter to the editor, and often including correction notices and corrections to the published article, may be sufficient.

Institutions are expected to conduct appropriate and thorough investigations into allegations of scientific misconduct. Ultimately, authors, journals, and institutions have a crucial obligation to ensure the accuracy of the scientific record. By appropriately addressing concerns about scientific misconduct and taking necessary actions based on the evaluation of these concerns, such as corrections, retractions with replacement, and retractions, Al-Qadim: Jurnal Tafsir dan Ilmu Tafsir will continue to fulfill its responsibility in ensuring the validity and integrity of the scientific record.
